How to use Crop PDF

  1. Open the PDFThe first page appears in the editor.
  2. Drag the crop boxThe shaded area will be cut off.
  3. Choose pages and cropAll pages (same margins), only this page, or a range.

How cropping works

The tool sets each page’s crop box — the visible area defined by the PDF standard. Every viewer and printer respects it, and because nothing is re-rendered, quality and file size stay the same.

Applying one box to many pages

“All pages” measures the margins you cut from the page you drew on and trims the same margins on every page. That suits books and reports with a consistent layout. For pages that differ, crop with “Only the page shown”, then move to the next page and repeat in a new run.

Crop is not delete

Content outside the crop box is hidden, not removed — it is still in the file. To permanently remove sensitive areas, use Redact PDF.

Removing scanner borders

Scans often come with a grey edge or a strip of the scanner lid. Draw one crop box around the content on the first page and apply it to all pages; check a couple of later pages in the preview, because paper can shift during feeding. For e-readers, cropping the wide white margins of a book PDF makes the text noticeably larger on a small screen.

Questions about Crop PDF

Can I undo a crop later?

Yes, in principle the hidden area is still there; another tool that resets the crop box can restore it.

Why does my cropped PDF print smaller?

Printers often scale pages to fit the paper. Choose “actual size” in the print dialog.

Does crop work on scanned PDFs?

Yes, it is ideal for trimming scanner borders.

Does cropping make the file smaller?

No. Cropping changes the visible page area; everything outside the box is still in the file. To remove what is outside, crop first and then use Redact PDF or flatten to images.
