How to use PDF to JPG / PNG
- Open the PDFThumbnails confirm it is the right file.
- Pick format and resolutionJPG for photos, PNG for sharp text and diagrams, WebP for the web.
- ConvertDownload each image or all of them as a ZIP.
Choosing resolution
PDF pages have no pixels until they are rendered. 72 dpi equals the page’s size in points (a Letter page becomes 612×792 px) — fine for previews. 150 dpi is a good screen size, 200 dpi works for most printing, and 300 dpi gives print-shop quality at the cost of large files.
Choosing a format
PNG keeps text edges perfectly sharp and is the safe choice for diagrams and screenshots. JPG is much smaller for photo-heavy pages. WebP gives the smallest files for web publishing and is supported by all modern browsers.
Only some pages
Type page numbers or ranges in “Pages” (for example 1, 4-6) to skip the rest. To pull out only the pictures embedded inside a page, use Extract images instead.
Images for slides and social posts
To drop a PDF page into a presentation, PNG at 150 dpi is crisp on screen and keeps line art sharp. For a web page or social post, JPG or WebP keeps files small; WebP is typically a third smaller than JPG at the same quality. When a document has many pages, every image is offered separately and as one zip download.
Questions about PDF to JPG / PNG
Why do my images have a white background?
PDF pages are painted on white paper, so rendered pages are opaque. Use Extract images for original transparent graphics.
How big will the images be?
At 150 dpi a Letter page is 1275×1650 px; JPG files are typically 150–400 KB.
Are fonts rendered correctly?
Yes, pdf.js renders embedded fonts and substitutes standard fonts if the PDF doesn’t embed them.
