How to use Unlock PDF

  1. Open the locked PDFProtected files show a lock in the file list.
  2. Enter the passwordLeave empty when the file opens but blocks printing or copying.
  3. UnlockDownload a decrypted copy without restrictions.

What this tool does — and doesn’t

Unlock removes encryption from a PDF when you provide the correct open password. It does not guess or crack passwords. Files that open without a password but restrict printing or copying (owner-password only) can be unlocked with an empty password field.

Use it responsibly

Only unlock documents you own or are authorized to modify. Removing restrictions from someone else’s protected work may breach copyright or contract terms.

Two kinds of locks

An open password stops a PDF from opening at all; you need it to unlock the file here. A permissions password lets the file open but blocks printing, copying or editing. For that second kind, leave the password box empty and the restrictions are removed when the file is decrypted. Either way the output is a normal, unencrypted copy — the original stays as it was on your disk.

Typical reasons to unlock

Bank and payroll statements often arrive locked with your date of birth or account number. Unlocking your own copy once means you can merge a year of statements, print them, or archive them without typing the password every time.

Questions about Unlock PDF

It says the password is wrong.

Check caps lock and keyboard layout; PDF passwords are case-sensitive.

Is the unlocked file identical otherwise?

Yes — content is unchanged, only the encryption is removed.

Can I re-protect it with a new password?

Yes, continue to Protect PDF from the result screen.

Can I unlock a PDF without knowing the password?

No. The tool decrypts with the password you enter; it doesn’t guess or crack passwords.

Is the password stored anywhere?

No. It is used once, in this browser tab, to decrypt the file and is gone when you leave the page. It is never sent to a server.
